Coldplay poster analysis

Coldplay is an alternative group selling albums across the globe, to do this they need to have a strong advertising front. For this poster they are advertising their new album tour linking the main image to their album ‘Ghost Stories’ through using the same image on both the poster and the album cover.  This helps to prevent confusion on which they are basing their tour on. The placing of each element is intentional, for example the only image has been placed in the centre of the poster creating the angelic effect of the wings thus linking to the album name. The angel wings themselves feature cryptic imagery of medieval-style drawings of fairly contemporary objects and concepts. The images include a couple in love, a man facing a mirror, a flight of white doves, a circular maze, and much more.  The smaller images are believed to be a representation of medieval stories of the sky and God and this once again followers the theme of the album and the poster. The background is a deep blue to represent the night sky and the sea. The starry sky also follows a theme as one of their number singles from the album is called ‘A Sky Full of Stars’.  By doing this, the band has kept a consistent theme throughout making it easily identifiable to the fans. The font is simple and goes well with the blue and white colour theme, while still being strong enough to stand out on its own.  The stereotypical layout of the group name above the title of the album makes it easily identifiable to coldplay and illustrates the importance of the band.
